CHRISTMAS PROGRAMS

Students in 5K-3rd grade and 5th have been working very hard on their Christmas programs, and they are excited to present them to you!  4K and 4th-grade students will not be performing in any Christmas programs. A calendar of each homeroom’s performance date and time is available below. A letter will be sent home to let you know what your child needs to wear on their performance day. Each performance will last approximately 30 minutes, so it is important that you be on time. After each performance, we invite you to take your child to the book fair in our school library. Every purchase helps support our school! We can’t wait to show you their hard work!

BOOK FAIR

Is your child on grade level for reading?

Our book fair will have an assortment of books to help your child grow as a reader. It will be held December 8-16.  Remember to send the money for the book PLUS the 8% sales tax in a Ziploc bag or envelope stating that it is for the Book Fair. 5K-3rd grade and 5th-grade parents are invited to attend the book fair with your child after your child’s Christmas program performance.  Since 4K and 4th grade do not have a Christmas program performance, these parents can attend the book fair any day this week with their child from 7:30-3:15. Happy shopping, and thanks so much for your support!

YEARBOOKS

If you would like to get a yearbook, please send payment to the school in an envelope labeled with your child’s name, homeroom teacher, and the word “yearbook”. You may also purchase online and personalize your yearbook at www.jostens.com. The price of the yearbook is $30.

STUDENT COUNCIL

The Student Council at Latta Elementary School organized a canned food drive that ran from November 3-19. The mission of the food drive was to give back to students and families in our community. One of the Viking Strong expectations students are learning this year is how and when to offer help. This opportunity was a great hands-on experience for students to put their learning into action. It was with great pride that we announced that through the canned food drive, the Student Council was able to collect 961 non-perishable items to help 25 families in our community.

I-READY TESTING

Students in grades 5K-5 will be participating in winter i-Ready testing after break. On Tuesday, December 2, students will take their reading assessment. On Thursday, December 4, students will take their math assessment. Please encourage your child to do their very best. Make sure they get a good night’s rest and eat a healthy breakfast. All students who increase their score from August will earn a trip to our school store, the Viking Shop!

PAJAMA DAY

All of LES will participate in pajama day on December 19! Wear your comfiest school appropriate pajamas on this half day of school. All primary classes will walk to the EPAC to enjoy a movie together. What a great way to kick off our winter break!

DISMISSAL NOTICES

If you are signing a student out early, please do so before 2:00 pm unless you have been called by the school nurse. If you know ahead of time that your child will be checked out early, please send a note. This will help the teacher be prepared to send your child home early. You will also need to sign your child out in the office. Please do not take your child from the school without alerting the office staff and signing them out on the clipboard at the front desk.

LHS PERFORMANCE

We are so excited that LES students have been invited to watch our very own Viking Theatre Workshop perform in “Santa’s Spectacles”. It’s a wonderful story about how a hard-hearted lady finds the true beauty of Christmas. LES students will become the audience for these hard working high school students on Wednesday, December 3. Students will walk to the EPAC to enjoy this wonderful show, so please dress comfortably.

LATTA CHRISTMAS PARADE

LES sponsors a float each year for the Latta Christmas Parade. This year, the parade is on Friday, December 5. The top sellers from our doughnut fundraiser have been invited to ride on the float. Permission slips went home in November. We hope that you will join us at 4:30 on Friday, December 5 to see all the beautiful floats and wave at our students!

CHRISTMAS BREAK

As we approach the Christmas season, we want to remind our families that Christmas Break is coming up soon, December 22-January 2. This time of year offers a wonderful chance to slow down, rest, and enjoy the company of those we love most. We encourage you to use this break to spend meaningful time together, create special memories, and celebrate the season in ways that bring joy to your family. We wish you a warm, safe, and happy holiday season, and we look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for the new year!
