Mrs. Williamson's 8th grade class spent September 11, 2025 learning about September 11, 2001. It was an insightful and somber morning.

On Friday, September 5th, students in Mrs. Leann, Mrs. Angie, and Ms. Bridget's class put their reading and math skills into action while making homemade peach cobbler! They read a recipe step-by-step, measured ingredients accurately, applied math skills with fractions and units of measurement, and practiced real-world life skills. The best part...enjoying a sweet treat they made themselves!

6th Grade Students Put Science into Action with Solar Ovens Latta Middle School’s 6th grade scientists recently brought classroom learning to life by designing, building, and testing their very own solar ovens. This hands-on project challenged students to apply scientific principles to meet two key science standards: 6-PS3-3: Apply scientific principles to design, construct, and test a device that either minimizes or maximizes thermal energy transfer. 6-PS3-4: Investigate the relationships among the energy transferred, the type of matter, the mass, and the change in the average kinetic energy of the particles as measured by temperature. Using everyday materials such as cardboard boxes, aluminum foil, and plastic wrap, students engineered ovens that could harness the sun’s energy to heat food. After carefully designing their models, and students tested them outdoors to make s'mores. Not only did this project strengthen students’ understanding of energy transfer, but it also encouraged critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. And of course, the best part—tasting the results of their solar-powered cooking! At LMS, we believe in giving students meaningful opportunities to see how science applies to the real world. These future innovators showed that with curiosity and teamwork, learning can be both fun and impactful. Image

The 7th graders are proving kindness matters. Students have been nominating their peers for showing acts of kindness both big and small! From these nominations a fun wheel picker chooses our weekly winners. So far, four students have been celebrated for being "caught" doing something kind. We are proud of their example and look forward to recognizing more students as the year continues!

Philly Cheesesteaks are not just made in Philadelphia!! We had another AMAZING meal at Latta Vikings Cafe!! 💚💛 Fresh Peaches 🍑 and Italian ice ❄️ for a cool, refreshing, FUN Friday!

Mrs. Brigman and Mrs. Ard kick off the first day of school by addressing all grade levels about school-wide and district-wide expectations!

We have had several parents contacting the district about clear book bags. Latta Schools will not be requiring students to have clear book bags. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Celebrating Success: Latta Middle School Awards Program On Friday, May 23, LMS held its annual Awards Program, a cherished tradition that celebrates the achievements, growth, and perseverance of our students throughout the school year. Parents, teachers, and staff gathered in the LHS gymnasium to recognize students who have excelled in academics, leadership, character, the arts, and service. The ceremony was a powerful reminder of the incredible effort and dedication demonstrated by our students. We are incredibly proud of all our students and their accomplishments this year. To our 8th-grade students, we wish you continued success as you move on to high school. And to all returning students, we look forward to another exciting year ahead. Congratulations to all award recipients—and thank you to our dedicated teachers and families for your ongoing support! Here’s to a strong finish and an even brighter future!

On Thursday, May 22, Latta Middle School proudly held its National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Induction Ceremony, honoring a group of exceptional students who exemplify the core pillars of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship, and Character. Held in the LHS gymnasium the ceremony welcomed family members, faculty, and staff to witness this momentous occasion. Following the traditional candle-lighting ceremony representing the five pillars, each inductee was formally introduced and presented with a certificate and NJHS pin. Congratulations to our newest NJHS members! Your dedication and hard work are an inspiration to our school community. We look forward to seeing the many ways you will continue to lead and serve.
